Nigiri Here, Negroni There
What to know, what to wear and what to order at Hear & There.

Welcome to Chow Now, giving you a sneak peek and insider tips for new restaurants we're super excited about.
Hear & There serves a full night out in one stop — omakase up front, cocktails in the back.
What to Know:
New York City is having a dual-concept moment — with a dizzying amount of options, spots are luring night-out connoisseurs with the promise of two separate experiences in one venue. Brooklyn’s latest opening is doing the most — in the best way possible.
Hear & There, now open in Williamsburg and helmed by husband-and-wife duo Howard Ng and Samantha Nie, doubles as both an omakase spot and a cocktail lounge, making your night out way too easy to plan. First stop: a 14-course sushi feast. Second stop: top-tier cocktails with Japanese flair. Third stop? Okay, there is no third stop — you’re already exactly where you need to be.

The $150 omakase menu, served at a 22-seat counter, includes seasonal nigiri and otsumami bites you’ll want to dream about later. (Resy the two-hour experience, stat.) After that, migrate to the sleek cocktail lounge next door, where Please Don’t Tell alum Larry Gonzalez is slinging drinks that mix Japanese ingredients with global flavors — think pisco from Peru and Mexican sotol.

The two spaces are semi-separated but feel like siblings — same DNA, different personalities. Warm wood, rich green tones and golden glints of light give both rooms a luxe, low-key glow. It’s all designed so you can finish dinner, stand up and feel like you're heading somewhere new — even though you’re just steps away.

What to Order:
Tostada

The omakase lineup pulls no punches. Think: a crisp tostada stacked with market fish, oroshi and bright herbs.
Oyster

Then there’s the oyster, upgraded with a glossy layer of tosazu gel, a pop of Asian pear and just enough preserved lemon and horseradish to keep things interesting.
Cabbage

Even the greens show up dressed to impress: grilled cabbage gets cozy with korobuta pork crumble, chive aioli, ribbons of lardo and a crown of pea tendrils.
Rice & Nori

At the bar, go for the Rice & Nori, made with seaweed-infused Toki whisky, brown rice syrup and house orange bitters — bonus points if you top it with fried nori and caviar.
High Frequency

Or sip on the High Frequency, a zesty mix of pisco, shiso, lemon cordial, snap pea syrup, pineapple and grape. It’s basically a garden party in a glass.
